What it is:

Bai Shao, or white peony root, is a bitter, sour, and slightly cold herb used in TCM to nourish the blood, preserve Yin, and relax the Liver. It is associated with the Liver and Spleen meridians. Bai Shao is known for its ability to nourish the blood and Liver Yin, calm the Liver Yang, and relieve pain. It is often used in formulas to treat patterns of Liver Qi stagnation with blood deficiency, such as menstrual disorders, muscle spasms, and emotional instability.
