What it is:

Zhi Gan Cao, or honey-fried licorice root, is a sweet and warm herb used in TCM to tonify the Spleen and Stomach, harmonize the Middle Jiao, and moderate the actions of other herbs. It is associated with the Spleen, Lung, and Heart meridians. Zhi Gan Cao is known for its ability to tonify the Spleen Qi, nourish the Stomach Yin, and alleviate spasms and pain. It is often used in formulas to harmonize the actions of other herbs and reduce the harshness of certain herbs.
